Type of opportunity:

More info: My wife and I are looking to purchase or lease at least 1 acre (preferably serving the Durham/Triangle area) to start a regenerative organic vegetable and flower farm business. We expect to grow in acreage over time. I've been farming for about 14 years across Florida, Oregon, California, Colorado, and NC, and managing other people's small farms for 7 years and it is time we started our own operation and homestead.

Equipment & infrastructure:

Fencing, Well / Pond / Other water source, Greenhouse, Farmer housing, Farm equipment, Irrigation equipment, Cold storage (cooler/freezer). More info: A small home onsite would be ideal but isn't necessary. Looking for as much existing infrastructure and equipment needed for a small farm as possible but will build and source whatever is lacking.

Flowers, Vegetable production.

Current farming practices:

Biodynamic, Certified organic, Transitioning to organic, Ecological production but not certified, None, the property is not being farmed.

Qualifications and goals:

Previous farming experience:

Volunteer, Employee, Manager

Number of years experience:

14

Other qualifications:

Incubator program, Farm business training, Higher education in agriculture or related field.

Production goals:

Field crops, Flowers, Herbs, Honey bees, Orchard, Vegetable production, Woodlot or forest products.

Personal experience and production goals summary:

Over 14 years, with 7 in farm management I’ve studied and grown in Florida, Oregon, California, Colorado and North Carolina. I earned a B.A. in Environmental Studies and an Agroecology Certificate from Florida International University (FIU) as well as a second Agroecology Certificate from UC Santa Cruz Center for Agroecology and Sustainable Food Systems (CASFS) Farm and Garden Apprenticeship.

I want to start a simple, 1 acre market vegetable and flower farm/CSA on leased land until I can purchase a 10+ acre farm/homestead of my own.  Long term I'd like to slowly branch out into adjacent markets including plant starts, value added products, beekeeping, agritourism, etc.
