Looking for the following:

Type of opportunity:

Sale (Standard), Sale (Owner Financed), Lease (1 to 5 Years), Lease (5+ Years), Lease with Option to Buy. More info: Ideally, we are looking for two acres of south facing cleared farm land with good drainage and access to water as an irrigation source. Additionally, a land owner who would allow us to put up a small greenhouse structure for seed starting would be ideal.

Equipment & infrastructure:

Barn, Well / Pond / Other water source, Greenhouse, Farmer housing, Cold storage (cooler/freezer). More info: We own our own equipment and a small mobile cold storage unit that would require access to electricity to operate. Farm land with a barn to use for processing vegetables and tool storage would be preferred.

Current production on farm:

Fallow, Field crops, Flowers, Herbs, Vegetable production. More info: As long as the land has not had any manufactured chemicals applied in the past few years, we would consider it for a lease. As an aside, we are focusing solely on vegetable, cut flower and herb production and will not be incorporating any animal production into our business model.

Current farming practices:

Biodynamic, Certified organic, Transitioning to organic, Ecological production but not certified, None, the property is not being farmed. More info: Our market garden is currently Certified Naturally Grown, with the plan to one day transition to Certified Organic. Growing on property that has not used manufactured chemicals in the past few years is important to us.

Qualifications and goals:

Previous farming experience:

Volunteer, Employee

Number of years experience:

6

Other qualifications:

Academic degree in agriculture or related field. More info: We have been apprentices and employees on a number of different farms, with a combined total of six seasons of experience between us. 2019 will be our third season owning and operating Stonecrop Garden, attending three weekly Farmers' Markets and for a ten member Community Supported Agriculture program. In 2019 we plan to increase the size of our CSA and continue to work on our growing practices and techniques. We are constantly learning and striving to better our methods, which we model after Eliot Coleman and Jean-Martin Fortier. Our college degrees are in Environmental Science and Graphic Design.

Production goals:

Flowers, Herbs, Vegetable production. More info: We hope to scale up to growing on two acres for our CSA and Farmers' Market production, using our BCS rotary spader and broadfork on permanent beds to minimize erosion and tillage on site. Unlike many small farms, we do not want to scale up to the use of a conventional tractor, nor do we rely on the use of apprenticeships, work trade or volunteers. All farm work is completed by the two farm owners until we can pay an employee a living wage.
