We have big dreams, but are firmly rooted in dirt and reality. We will be good stewards of the land and of farming traditions.

Looking for the following:

Type of opportunity:

Sale (Standard), Sale (Owner Financed). More info: I currently work as a manager of a 6 acre vegetable operation. My husband and I are ready to buy our own farm to grow vegetables and possibly pasture beef. I would like to have at least 5 acres to grow on, but would love more. We are committed to fixing up an older place, but would like to have some bones to work with. I have been farming for 10+ years and my husband is a handy man and fixer of all things. His job involves traveling and can be done from anywhere, so location is flexible. If you are looking to sell your land to a hardworking family who will be good stewards and keep the land in production, we are it!

Equipment & infrastructure:

Barn, Well / Pond / Other water source, Farmer housing, Farm equipment, Irrigation equipment, Cold storage (cooler/freezer). More info: Our ideal place would be an existing farm with barns and a tractor. But neither is necessary if the land is right.

Current production on farm:

More info: The current production on the farm is not a big deal for us. While it makes it easier to move into a farm that is already producing vegetables, we don't expect to find that perfect fit. Having some already open space for row crops is all that we need to start.

Current farming practices:

More info: We will be using organic practices, but are okay with a farm that is along any of the conventional to organic spectrum.

Qualifications and goals:

Previous farming experience:

Employee, Manager

Number of years experience:

11

Other qualifications:

Farm business training, Higher education in agriculture or related field. More info: I started out working in greenhouses in floraculture and eventually landed at an organic vegetable farm near waynesville nc. Since then I went back to school to get a masters in entomology. I have managed vegetable farms for both NCSU and Virginia Tech. I have kept bees for 5 years.

Production goals:

Field crops, Flowers, Hay or pasture, Orchard, Vegetable production, Vineyard. More info: The production would depend on the land but would revolve around vegetable growing for wholesale, CSA, and tailgate markets. We are really interested in small fruit and orchard production as well, especially for u-pick and agri-tourism. Our goals are for a diversified income stream and to both work at the farm full time. However, we are prepared for that to be years down the line and to start slowly and grow cautiously.

Personal experience and production goals summary:

Along with a practical, mechanic, fix-it spouse, I am ready to own a farm. I have worked on other farms for years, and went back to school to get a higher paying job so I could afford to buy my own place. I met my husband there and since then we have scrimped and saved, bought and fixed up an old house, and are finally feeling financially prepared to buy some land.  My experience runs from growing micro greens for fancy restuarants to growing 10,000# of sweet potatos for dining halls. Working for other farms and for two large schools I have had lots of exposure to different growing styles and options. Our own will depend on the land and it's location to markets.
