Looking for the following:

Type of opportunity:

Sale (Standard), Sale (Owner Financed), Lease with Option to Buy, Business Partnership. More info: My family and I are looking to create a homestead-style farm in the area as soon as possible. We have been praying and researching this venture for a while now and are looking to put the plan into action. Our primary goal would be to mirror Joel Salatin's Polyface Farm on a smaller scale and in accordance to NC guidelines here in the area. Our motivation is to set a course for our family (wife and three little kids) that allows us to do life together in a more old-school type of way in partnership with nature as God designed it and our local community.

Equipment & infrastructure:

Fencing, Well / Pond / Other water source, Farmer housing, Farm equipment. More info: We would like to make our primary residence on the farm. The time that is able to be spent on the little moments by doing this instead of commuting to the farm is irreplaceable. The rest of the equipment are niceties, granted water on property would be key for the animals.

Current production on farm:

Cattle (Dairy/Beef), Fallow, Hay or pasture, Hogs, Honey bees, Orchard, Poultry (Broiler/Layer), Sheep/Goat (Dairy/Meat), Vegetable production, Woodlot or forest products. More info: I mentioned Polyface Farm on a smaller scale. If this is a blank slate, our goal would be to start with pastured broilers and then work up to cattle all while building a garden/orchard with bees that would sustain us and if grown large enough be available for market as well. My wife and I love baking (primarily sourdough and pizza) as well and providing baked goods for market from the items produced on the farm will be an adjacent goal down the road.

Current farming practices:

Certified organic, Transitioning to organic, Ecological production but not certified, None, the property is not being farmed. More info: I don't want to get into different buzzwords here but as I mentioned we want to mirror Polyface Farm within the NC guidelines. This means growing the pasture and natural resources of the farm to sustain the poultry and cattle. The growth of that pasture through sustainable all-natural means will determine the scale of what the farm can be, not the other way around in the sense of using chemicals and forcing production.

Qualifications and goals:

Previous farming experience:

Volunteer

Number of years experience:

0

Other qualifications:

More info: I've never farmed a day in my life but you won't find a more motivated husband and father with a harder work ethic that's focused on setting my family on a healthy, sustainable, God-honoring path. My wife and I both don't know the word quit and we are quick learners.

Production goals:

Cattle (Dairy/Beef), Hay or pasture, Hogs, Honey bees, Poultry (Broiler/Layer), Woodlot or forest products. More info: Our goal is to create a self-sustaining homestead for our family. We want to produce all the food we need on the farm (or 99% of it) and then enough extra to market and provide a good reasonable life for our family. We are not trying to create a farming/agritourism empire.

Personal experience and production goals summary:

My family (wife and three kids [7, 5, & 7months]) and I are looking to create a homestead-style farm in the area as soon as possible. We have been praying and researching this venture for a while now and are looking to put the plan into action. We currently reside in South Raleigh but are open to areas from north and west of the Triangle to a little east of Raleigh.
Our primary goal would be to mirror Joel Salatin's Polyface Farm on a smaller scale and in accordance with NC guidelines here in the area. Our motivation is to set a course for our family (wife and three little kids) that allows us to do life together in a more old-school type of way in partnership with nature as God designed it and our local community. If starting with a blank slate, we would like to start with pastured broilers and work our way up to cows. In conjunction with those, our plan would be to have bees and a garden along with a small bakery all with the goal of bringing items to market with the poultry and beef.
