Looking for the following:

Type of opportunity:

Sale (Standard). More info: We are experienced young farmers looking to purchase a property for our farm business. This will be a place where we make long-term investments in the land, as well as the local community. We believe that the revitalization of small-town America starts with the agro economy. Please help us to make this investment in a better tomorrow!

Equipment & infrastructure:

Well / Pond / Other water source. More info: An existing water source would be a plus, but not completely necessary.

Current production on farm:

More info: No current production is necessary; most important is that the integrity of the land hasn't been significantly damaged.

Qualifications and goals:

Previous farming experience:

Employee, Manager

Number of years experience:

8

Other qualifications:

Incubator program, Farm business training, Higher education in agriculture or related field. More info: My wife and I have owned and operated our farm business in Buncombe county for the past few years, called Headwaters Market Garden. Our focus is on "quality over quantity", and we have many loyal customers who love our product! We mainly sell organic (non-certified) vegetables and herbs to high-end restaurants in downtown Asheville, as well as Asheville City Market on Saturdays during the growing season. I was an agricultural professional and Certified Crop Adviser (CCA) in North Carolina prior to that, and have a BS in biology. My wife and I also completed the OGS Farm Beginnings program in 2018.

Production goals:

Herbs, Poultry (Broiler/Layer), Vegetable production, Woodlot or forest products. More info: Our goal is to expand our current vegetable operation on the new property, with a focus on building soil for increasingly better production and resiliency. Small fruit and perennial crops are also part of our plans, and we will include poultry production for eggs and meat.

Personal experience and production goals summary:

My wife and I are experienced farmers with a solid background to support our future goals.

We are very knowledgeable about agricultural production in the southern Appalachians, including the soils, climate & weather, crops, potential pests, and native forest ecology.

We hope to establish our farm business in an area close enough to Asheville to still be involved in the local food movement there, and to continue supplying our awesome chefs!

However, the local rural community in which we plant our farm, and our family, will be the epicenter for positive enhancement in our vision.  We hope to connect with a landowner willing to sell us a few acres to help make that happen!
