More info: My wife and I have owned and operated our farm business in Buncombe county for the past 3 years, called Headwaters Market Garden. Our focus is on "quality over quantity", and have many loyal customers who love our product! We mainly sell organic (non-certified) vegetables and herbs to high-end restaurants in downtown Asheville, as well as Asheville City Market on Saturdays during the growing season. I was a Certified Crop Adviser (CCA) in North Carolina for about 5 years prior to that, and graduated in 2008 with a degree in Biology. My wife and I also just completed the OGS Farm Beginnings program in 2018.

Production goals:

Herbs, Poultry (Broiler/Layer), Sheep/Goat (Dairy/Meat), Vegetable production, Woodlot or forest products. More info: Our goal is to establish a multi-faceted ecological farming operation, in which each enterprise supports the others - as well as the local native ecosystem. This will include small livestock such as sheep and poultry, perennial vegetables and fruits, and sustainable woodlot products such as mushrooms and nuts on top of our current annual vegetable production. Remaining ecologically sound is extremely important to us, and ideally, we seek a landowner who shares these values!

Personal experience and production goals summary:

My wife and I are experienced farmers with a solid background to support our future goals.

We are very experienced and knowledgeable with agricultural production in the southern Appalachians, including the soils, climate & weather, crops, potential pests, and (most importantly) native forest ecology surrounding production areas.

We have a vision to establish a new form of agriculture here that will set a positive example to be emulated throughout the region and beyond; one that is truly sustainable not only for the environment, but for the farmer and their local community!
