Julie Vann

A place to plant rescued native plants, small-space veggie gardening, and small- space bird habitat design. Would love to work with researchers and create demonstration sites of these things.

Looking for the following:

Type of opportunity:

Lease (1 to 5 Years).

Equipment & infrastructure:

More info: Equipment and infrastructure is optional for me. I do need a water source, though. I want to build an underground greenhouse as my only structure (just the clear roof above ground.)

Current production on farm:

Aquaculture, Fallow, Field crops, Flowers, Hay or pasture, Herbs, Orchard, Vineyard, Woodlot or forest products. More info: I love it all! I would rather not work with animals, however, except for aquaculture. I am open to maintaining any preexisting non-animal operations occurring there, such as hay production, as long as there are existing clients.

Current farming practices:

None, the property is not being farmed. More info: I just do city lot gardening and rainwater collection. I am a novice!

Qualifications and goals:

Previous farming experience:

Volunteer

Number of years experience:

2

Other qualifications:

More info: None, really. I just love the land and especially wild, native plants. If you love your land and don't want to see it subdivided, I would be a good person to sell to. I don't want to change it much. I am very familiar with farming best management practices, especially those relating to erosion control and storm water management. That was my former line of work.

Production goals:

Fallow, Flowers. More info: Uncertain. None of what I do might work, but I want to try, and to work collaboratively with others. No business plan yet.

Personal experience and production goals summary:

I have been an amateur gardener for about 10 years. I have taken several workshops in permaculture and at the Organic Growers School but I have never produced much. I would love to become better at it and with help to develop production methods that would be transferrable to urban households...vertical vegetable gardening, small space veggie production and pollinator plantings, and beautiful, waterfall-like rainwater collection and conveyance features. Also, urban bird habitats in small spaces.
