Looking for the following:

Type of opportunity:

Sale (Standard). More info: Seeking a small farm on which to raise my children, as we all raise various animals and food crops. This is the first step towards a larger dream involving a bigger operation that will work closely with the community. My husband wants to provide housing, work, and entrepreneurial support to homeless veterans, while I seek to do the same with displaced women and children.

Equipment & infrastructure:

Barn, Fencing, Farmer housing. More info: We are desperately trying to avoid having to build on a vacant lot, so I’m looking for properties with some sort of existing infrastructure.

Current production on farm:

Aquaculture, Cattle (Dairy/Beef), Christmas trees, Fallow, Field crops, Flowers, Hay or pasture, Hemp, Herbs, Hogs, Honey bees, Orchard, Poultry (Broiler/Layer), Sheep/Goat (Dairy/Meat), Vegetable production, Vineyard, Woodlot or forest products. More info: I’m not picky - simply seeking a small family farm to begin our journey. While it would be wonderful to have the larger property in place so we can grow into it, we know it’s best to start small. The children are very young, and we have a learning curve ahead. Ultimately, though, I will raise wool sheep. We do want a small number of cows. Chickens, goats, pigs... My 5-year old wants a zebra lol. At this point we only seek to feed ourselves. Once we’ve mastered that, we can expand and help to feed the community!

Current farming practices:

Certified organic, Transitioning to organic. More info: We intend to farm organically - as much as possible.

Qualifications and goals:

Previous farming experience:

Volunteer

Number of years experience:

2

Production goals:

Cattle (Dairy/Beef), Field crops, Hay or pasture, Herbs, Honey bees, Orchard, Poultry (Broiler/Layer), Sheep/Goat (Dairy/Meat), Vegetable production, Woodlot or forest products.

Personal experience and production goals summary:

I spent a great deal of time on a CSA farm while in college in Georgia. The passion and unrelenting urge to live that beautiful, sweaty, dirty life every day has never died out. It was always our retirement plan - have a homestead operation, and help the homeless population. But I looked at my babies - now toddlers and preschoolers - and realized NOW is the time. They are never happier little people than when we are on a farm.
