Looking for the following:

Type of opportunity:

Lease (1 to 5 Years), Lease (5+ Years), Lease with Option to Buy, Business Partnership. More info: Seeking opportunities to lease primarily pasture land to implement multi-species, ultra-high density grazing (primarily sheep and cattle) to bring high quality meats to market, through CSA program, resale to boutique butchers and restaurants. Possibly expand to run a dairy sub-herd (with collaborators). On longer lease, develop agrosilvopastoral systems of forage production. Develop minimal and mobile fencing and water systems for practical management. Some cropping area to work in collaboration with friends to intensively grow crops for sale at farmer’s markets/CSA/restaurants.

Equipment & infrastructure:

Barn, Fencing, Well / Pond / Other water source, Greenhouse, Livestock facilities, Farmer housing, Farm equipment, Irrigation equipment. More info: Any and all existing and contributing infrastructure or equipment is helpful. As our primary interest is grazing animals, any fencing equipment is helpful, especially electric fencing. We would consider the development and upstart investment in semi-permanent fencing and irrigation infrastructure necessary to get off the ground.

Current production on farm:

Cattle (Dairy/Beef), Hay or pasture, Hemp, Herbs, Hogs, Honey bees, Orchard, Poultry (Broiler/Layer), Sheep/Goat (Dairy/Meat), Vegetable production, Woodlot or forest products.

Current farming practices:

Biodynamic, Conventional, Certified organic, Transitioning to organic, Ecological production but not certified, None, the property is not being farmed.

Qualifications and goals:

Previous farming experience:

Volunteer, Manager

Number of years experience:

8

Other qualifications:

Academic degree in agriculture or related field. More info: My wife and I currently own farmland in Minas Gerais, Brazil. We have developed agroforestry and agrosilvopastoral systems on our land and have worked for others in developing these systems as well as in the context of intern programs. We currently raise cattle and sheep in an intensive rotational grazing system, working to regenerate the health of the land. I have various certificates for course completion in Permaculture design, agroecology, agroforestry, regenerative agriculture and restoration of natural springs and riparian areas. Cumulative theoretical and practical experience of over 500hrs

Production goals:

Cattle (Dairy/Beef), Hay or pasture, Hemp, Hogs, Honey bees, Orchard, Poultry (Broiler/Layer), Sheep/Goat (Dairy/Meat), Woodlot or forest products. More info: Primary production goals are to intensively graze ruminant livestock (principally cattle and sheep) for meat production while improving land quality and obtain ecological objectives of sustainable and even regenerative outcomes. If expansion and workload permits, possibly in collaboration, take on production of monogastric animals (pigs and broiler chickens) in rotation. Interest in bee production and hemp, if permissible. Forest products like mushrooms, possibly rotate pigs through wood lot paddocks. Silvopastoral production of berries and fodder species for food and forage for livestock.

Personal experience and production goals summary:

I have aggregated years of theoretical and practical experience in agroecology, regenerative agriculture and regenerative ranching/livestock production. Seeking to plug in to a new region to continue with livestock/crop production goals with better tertiary services to bring those products to market. All the while improving ecosystem services (water cycle, mineral cycle, energy flow & community dynamics) on land in collaboration with landowners under lease agreements.
