Looking for the following:

Type of opportunity:

Lease (1 to 5 Years), Lease with Option to Buy, Internship / Mentorship, Incubator / Mentored Lease, Business Partnership, Employment, Employment with Transfer. More info: I am graduating from Appalachian State in May 2021 with a degree in Sustainable Development with a concentration in Agroecology and a minor in Political Science. I am seeking land to start farming on a small scale. I am mainly interested in vegetable production and some small livestock. The only livestock I am particular in is egg layers (chicken or duck), and meat rabbits. I have a passion for agriculture, specifically organic agriculture, I am not looking to become Certified Organic but I do value as close to organic production as possible. I was born and raised in Greensboro, NC and would like to stay close to that area.

Equipment & infrastructure:

Well / Pond / Other water source, Greenhouse, Farm equipment, Irrigation equipment, Cold storage (cooler/freezer). More info: I am looking for some land to lease or work on and I will make the best out of any opportunity given to me.

Current production on farm:

Aquaculture, Field crops, Flowers, Hemp, Honey bees, Orchard, Poultry (Broiler/Layer), Vegetable production, Vineyard, Woodlot or forest products. More info: I really enjoy aquaponics and hydroponics, however I will be completely satisfied with just in ground vegetable production.

Current farming practices:

Biodynamic, Ecological production but not certified. More info: I am in search of a farm that practices organic methods but is not Certified Organic, I would not be against Certified Organic. I value organic farming but I understand the financial burdens that certified organic farms face with keeping the label. That is why I would like a organic/ ecological farm that is not certified organic.

Qualifications and goals:

Previous farming experience:

Volunteer, Employee

Number of years experience:

2

Other qualifications:

Higher education in agriculture or related field. More info: In May, I will have a BS in Sustainable Development with a concentration in Agroecology and a minor in Political Science. I worked at Heartwood Farms summer of 2020, I have also interned and volunteered at Blue Ridge Women in Agriculture since 2018.

Production goals:

Aquaculture, Field crops, Flowers, Hemp, Herbs, Honey bees, Orchard, Poultry (Broiler/Layer), Vegetable production, Woodlot or forest products. More info: I am looking to grow all a variety of vegetables and I do not want to limit any opportunities. I would like to see myself growing food in the near future.

Personal experience and production goals summary:

I worked at Heartwood Farms in Meat Camp, NC outside of Boone. On the farm, I took care of daily operations which included watering, feeding and cleaning all livestock, Heartwood raised egg layers and meat birds, as well as meat rabbits. There also was a small garden where organic vegetables were grown. We focused on growing lettuce mixes for salad. With this experience I learned what it takes to manage a farm and how to take care of livestock. I am soon to be a college graduate and am looking for somewhere to farm when I graduate, please do not hesitate to reach out with any and every opportunity that can be offered.
