Property Description

Becki's Bounty is a large market Garden located in Black Mountain North Carolina near Lake Tomahawk. The garden has a 6000 square-foot vegetable production, a passive solar greenhouse with rainwater collection, 125 Row feet of Berries surrounding two large garden plots, an open shed and a closed Shed, and a poultry flock housed in 2 coops connected by chicken tunnels. The garden is situated on a south facing slope with a 30° drop. There are two houses on the property. The duplex houses the center of operations for Becki's Bounty and the other half is possibly available. Also a cottage on the property is currently leased for long term but could be converted to an Airbnb cottage. A cob oven is used for special events. A small pond collects runoff from the rainwater storage and grows lotus and other water plants.

I am seeking an experienced grower to lease/take over the vegetable production part of this garden. I am seeking someone who is experienced in intensive growing techniques and can increase production and efficiency in the vegetable production. A successful partnership would allow me to spend more time teaching gardening skills to various groups, developing the site as an Agro tourism destination, providing consultation to local home gardeners and hosting special events in the Becki's Bounty garden. This has been a successful market garden for 10 years and could be expanded to include a CSA and steady sales to a growing number of resturants in Black Mountain.

Primary source of water is rainwater collection from the duplex roof. The greenhouse is passive solar attached to the duplex. It is not climate controlled. 2 coops house the chickens with chicken tunnels connecting the 2 coops. A 4 BR unit 1 bath unit in the duplex is potentiallly available for rent as is the 1 BR cottage. Most work is done by hand, there is a walk behind tiller, mulching mower, string weeder and leaf blower. Produce is processed in a four sink system in the apartment housing the business. Irrigation is by drip tape. Fresh produce is stored in 2 refrigerators.

I bed of flowers, mostly sunflowers. I bed of annual and perennial herbs. 36 beds of annual vegetables. Flock size is currently 6 but could be expand to 24 hens per town ordinances, no roosters allowed. Large yard with oak trees and grass provides materials for compost.

No synthetic chemicals, fertilizers, herbicides or pesticides have been used since creating the garden 10 years ago. Constant creation and application of compost is fed back into the garden. Spent hops from a local brewery are used to mulch paths between beds and around plants. A black soldier fly system processes Kitchen waste from 3 households. Planting beds are permanent raised beds, 4' by 25' with 2' paths between. The paths could be reduced in size to increase productivity. equipment for beekeeping is available.
