More info: I would like to establish a sustainable family farm that produces more than it consumes. I would like the farm to truly sustain my family and eventually serve a community. I would like to implement permaculture practices to be as regenerative as possible with our resources. I would like to weave livestock, vegetables, fruits, herbs, honey bees, flowers, and woods together in a symbiotic enterprise where one element supports the rest.
Personal experience and production goals summary:
I am currently serving as an active duty Army officer in Georgia but I am willing to relocate to pursue establishing a sustainable family farm. I am married with three children and we have one dog. Since 2012 I have volunteered at a family run organic farm near Atlanta. The farm grows organic produce and a variety of small livestock for cancer patients in the community. Since 2016 I have volunteered hours at a family run sustainable farm in east central Alabama. They are experts with raw dairy, yogurt, honey, beef cattle, and egg production. Since 2012 I have self educated myself on permaculture and sustainable agriculture. I would very much like to farm for a career and to raise my children on a farm so they can either continue farming in the future or at a minimum understand where their food comes from and the work it takes to grow food. I am open to partnership operations and desire mentoring from farmers. I am also open to leasing land and struggling through the learning curve and growing pains of beginning a farm operation on my own.
