Plan
Battle Family Farm is a mission-driven, regenerative farm seeking to continue the stewardship of an existing farm through NC FarmLink. Our goal is to honor what has already been built by maintaining current infrastructure while improving soil health and long-term farm resilience. Planned operations include pasture-raised chickens for meat and eggs, a hatchery and brooder space for up to 200 chicks, regenerative gardens and a food forest, high tunnel production, cold storage, and mushroom cultivation to restore soil biology. We rebuild soil through composting, mycelium networks, and rotational grazing without synthetic inputs. As part of our mission, we plan to develop an incubator farm prog
Desired infrastructure
Equipment and infrastructure details
We prefer to work with existing equipment and infrastructure, maintaining and improving what is already in place. Preferred infrastructure includes poultry housing for layers and meat birds, fencing and pasture access for rotational grazing, and space for a hatchery and brooder. We value garden areas, a high tunnel or greenhouse, cold storage, and barns or sheds for storage and maintenance. Access to water, including wells or spigots, and shaded or wooded areas for passive outdoor mushroom cultivation are important. Our goal is to responsibly use and care for existing farm systems.
Preferred type of opportunity
Opportunity details
We are seeking an opportunity to step into an existing farm where we can maintain daily operations, care for the land, and build upon established systems. We are open to lease, lease-to-own, or gradual transition arrangements that allow for stability and long-term stewardship. Our goal is to honor the farm’s legacy, keep the land actively worked, and improve soil health while expanding production, education, and community programming over time.
Desired farming practices
Practices details
At Battle Family Farm, we focus on regenerative stewardship and improving existing systems. We prioritize soil health through composting, mushroom compost, mycelium networks, polyculture planting, and rotational livestock integration while avoiding synthetic pesticides and fertilizers. We raise livestock humanely with low-stress handling and close daily care. We value beekeeping and pollinator support as part of a balanced ecosystem. Our goal is to strengthen soil, water, and infrastructure over time, leaving the land healthier, productive, and well cared for while honoring its legacy.
Production goals
Goals details
At Battle Family Farm, we practice regenerative stewardship focused on improving existing farm systems and long-term soil health. We rebuild soil through composting, mushroom compost, mycelium networks, polyculture planting, and rotational livestock integration while avoiding synthetic chemicals. Our production includes pasture-raised poultry for meat and eggs, diversified gardens, food forests, and indoor and passive outdoor mushroom cultivation. We prioritize humane livestock care, pollinator support, and strengthening the land while developing education, agritourism, and an incubator farm program for future farmers.

Experience details
Our agricultural experience is hands-on and practice-based. We currently work with Golden Organic Farming on livestock projects, assisting with poultry and hog operations. Responsibilities include caring for live birds for meat processing, hatching birds for layers and meat, feeding, cleaning, housing, and infrastructure support. We also assist with hog feeding, birthing, and castration. We grow food on our homestead using polyculture and companion planting and have over five years of experience growing mushrooms from spore to fruit, selling grow kits, producing mushroom compost, and practicing passive outdoor mushroom cultivation integrated into garden soil systems.
