Husband and I are looking to start our own cattle farm

Intend to start a small family cattle operation and plan to grow gradually using regenerative practices. Our herd will be 100% grass-fed and raised without hormones, steroids, or routine antibiotics. We will use rotational grazing to improve soil health, increase forage diversity, and protect waterways, allowing pastures to rest between rotations. As we expand, we will add fencing, water access, and native plantings to support animal welfare, carbon retention, and long-term productivity.

Equipment and infrastructure details

We plan to start with basic, practical infrastructure suited for small-scale cattle production. This includes perimeter and cross-fencing for rotational grazing, portable electric fencing, secure gates, a small corral and handling area, and a water system with troughs accessible in each paddock.

  • Sale (Owner Financed)
  • Lease (5+ Years)
  • Lease w/Option to Buy

Opportunity details

We are seeking a long-term land opportunity that allows us to establish and grow our small regenerative cattle operation. We are open to creative arrangements such as owner financing or a profit-share payment structure, and we would also consider a 5+ year lease to provide stability for pasture development. I am home full time and able to manage day-to-day farm responsibilities, while my husband operates his own flatbed trucking business and will support farm operations and growth.

  • Regenerative

Practices details

Our goal is to raise cattle using regenerative and environmentally responsible practices. We will manage grazing in planned rotations to prevent overgrazing, encourage deep-rooted grasses, and improve soil structure and water retention. Our cattle will be grass-fed and managed with low-stress handling and minimal outside inputs. We aim to restore pasture health over time, support wildlife habitat, and operate a farm that prioritizes land stewardship and resilient production.

Goals details

We plan to develop a small, pasture-based cattle operation and expand gradually as our skills and land capacity grow. Our herd will be grass-fed and managed with rotational grazing to improve soil health, forage quality, and pasture resilience. We aim to reduce external inputs, support healthy livestock, and maintain clean water and diverse habitat. Our long-term goals include building a stable breeding herd, improving pasture productivity, and developing a sustainable, community-focused farm business.

Experience details

We have limited formal livestock experience; however, my husband previously helped on his grandfather’s cattle farm, assisting with feeding, fencing, and seasonal herd care. My background is in small-scale gardening and land stewardship. We are actively building our skills through workshops, extension resources, and guidance from experienced local producers, and we are committed to continued hands-on learning as we grow our operation.
