Farming part-time for homestead
Updated Dec 3, 2025
Seeking
- 11-50 Total acres
- 6-10 Acres of cropland or tillable land
- 6-10 Acres of pasture
- 6-10 Acres of hayland
Desired locations
Beginner looking for experience and know how. I don't mind work, but it must align with knowledge development.
Plan
No experience but intention is toward mixed use, field crop and livestock intensively, garden more personally....Cultivation of the mind, body and spirit through the propagation of life through the earth.
I find the conventional division between homesteading and commercial farming confusing and counterproductive. Should not the distinction be between subsistence and surplus, and should we all not strive toward surplus?
I just need the chance to get to work under an accomplished farmer.

Preferred type of opportunity
Opportunity details
Id prefer an apprenticeship but will figure it out if that is not an option. Dig holes and establish a holding corral, buy portable electric fencing for when livestock has been trained within hard confinement, seed and reseed pasture, construct chicken houses...initiate composting process, source waste-divert waste stream from grocery stores or restaurants.

Experience details
Ive read George Henderson, Louis Bromfield, Andre Voisin, Albert Howard, and Joel Salatin, among others. I've watched many No Till growers episodes, and, I volunteered on two farms though for very limited periods. I know not to step on the root beds, and how to bottle feed a calf.
