Quiet couple seeking long-term land to steward, garden, and build a life together.

I am an aspiring homesteader rather than a commercial farmer. My goal is to build a unique lifestyle by growing much of my own food and responsibly raising a small amount of livestock for personal use. I enjoy gardening, learning traditional skills, and caring for animals, and I'm looking for a place where I can gradually develop more of those skills over time. I'm interested in being a good steward of the land, improving soil health, minimizing waste, and working with nature while respecting the property owner's goals and expectations.

Equipment and infrastructure details

My ideal property would have a small home or cottage with reliable electricity, plumbing, and internet so I can continue operating my remote business. Access to water for gardening and enough open space for a vegetable garden would be ideal. Existing fencing, outbuildings, or a small workshop would be wonderful but are absolutely not required. I'm happy to start small and gradually improve the property with the owner's permission.

Opportunity details

As an LGBTQ+ couple, we are looking for a respectful, long-term rental or land-sharing arrangement where my partner and I can establish roots and care for a property. We'd love to find a landowner who appreciates what we're trying to do. We're interested in a place where we can maintain our own independent household while contributing positively to the property and being good, helpful neighbors. We're not looking to maximize profit, but to build a long-term home with an affordable, mutually beneficial arrangement. Our hope is to build a stable, peaceful life in the mountains of Western NC on a couple acres of land with simple housing.

Practices details

My goal is small-scale homesteading rather than commercial production. I hope to maintain a productive vegetable garden with seasonal crops, herbs, and fruit trees or berries. If permitted, I would love to raise small livestock such as meat rabbits and laying hens, with the possibility of expanding to other livestock such as Nigerian dwarf goats, bees, and quail if appropriate for the property. I believe in humane animal care, ethical harvesting, composting, and using sustainable practices to produce healthy food while improving the land over time.

Experience details

I have not worked professionally in agriculture and do not wish to, but I have spent a great deal of time researching gardening, homesteading, animal husbandry, and sustainable land management. I enjoy continuous learning and hands-on practice. I value humane animal care, responsible stewardship, and a willingness to learn from those with more experience. I have been raising & butchering meat rabbits, and growing fruit trees + a small vegetable and herb garden for five years now in the suburbs. I am also a taxidermist with skills in hide tanning and crafting.
