Farming represents both a livelihood and a responsibility to steward the land. My vision is two fold.

Farming represents both a livelihood and a responsibility to steward the land. My vision is to lease acreage and raise livestock using sustainable methods that promote soil health, animal welfare, and long-term productivity. By applying rotational grazing practices, I will allow pastures to naturally regenerate, improve biodiversity, and reduce the need for chemical inputs. Where appropriate, I will incorporate traditional methodologies that honor time-tested knowledge while balancing modern sustainability standards. This approach not only produces healthier animals but also creates a resilient farming system that benefits the environment and local community.

Equipment and infrastructure details

This model not only supplies the community with healthy, locally raised meat but also supports long-term resilience by promoting sustainable land use. Most resources are land and water derived with appropriate mineral and food supplements when needed.

Fenced, water supply, shelter from the elements (shed, field outhouse) and electricity service. Utilities do not need to be included, just available.

Farming Practices

The operation is built on sustainable, pasture-based livestock management. Using rotational grazing, pastures are divided into sections, and sheep and goats are moved systematically. This prevents overgrazing, restores soil health, and enhances biodiversity. No external feed is required — the herd thrives entirely on forage, making the system both low-cost and ecologically responsible.

Community & Family Impact

This model not only provides high-quality, locally raised meat but also strengthens community resilience. By focusing on soil restoration, healthier ecosystems, and sustainable food supply, the farm enriches the community’s agricultural base.

Experience details

My family owned a 25 acre pasture fenced farm in Stokes County from 1995 through 2009.

We raised black angus cattle, 7 generations and dorper sheep 9 generations.

My parents owned the property and due to moving out of state sold the property in 2009.

I loved the work and would like to do this again with a lease option since I do not want to extend myself on a purchase or additional mortgage at this time.
