I am now working on a produce farm but still want a bit of land to rent and have sheep to utilize their milk.

I would love to make farming my job! It's been a passion of mine for maybe 10 years now, and have been learning as much as I can along the way. I started out having a few backyard chickens along with a very productive garden. I worked my way into having a small herd of Nubian goats as well. I learned how to make cheeses and soaps with the milk that came from my goats. Also just utilizing everything that came from the homestead, nothing went to waste! I've learned a lot about regenerative agriculture and rotational grazing and how they can work together to make a productive farm. I know I have alot more to learn, I just need the right hands on situation to get the ball rolling.

Equipment and infrastructure details

We're hoping to find a rental preferably with some land to do something with but seeing as how that's nearly impossible, I'd like to find a piece of land to rent until we can find our own place to buy some day. It would be nice for it to have some sort of structure and/or fencing. But if not, I could build something small and bring on some movable fencing.

Opportunity details

I would love to be able to live on a farm that is either established or something I could plan out myself. It would be even better for an opportunity to buy a piece of that land down the road. I understand that not everyone wants to sell off their land, so that's why something long term is preferred. With the way land prices are nowadays, it's much harder to make the dream of farming come to life, unless given the opportunity to live and work on someone else's farm that maybe can't or doesn't want to deal with the responsibility of it. That's where I come in!

Practices details

The main animals I'd like to work with are goats, sheep, chickens and rabbits. Small scale things is what interests me most. They're just easier to manage on my own. Growing food is so important to me and having those animals are so beneficial for that. I would also love to get into worm farming as that would benefit a garden tremendously!

  • Honey bees
  • Orchard / Vineyard
  • Poultry (Broiler / Layer)
  • Sheep/Goat (Dairy / Meat)
  • Vegetables

Goals details

Now that I'm working on a big produce farm, I'd really like to find a piece of land to have some sheep on, make cheeses and other things with the milk. Even to learn how to sheer and make things with the wool. I've recently learned how to knit, so to see the full circle of a project would be pretty cool.

Experience details

I'm currently working on a produce farm. We grow things for the farm store, and 2 different farmers markets. I have experience with small homestead type work, like my chickens and goats. I'd really like to get into sheep and continue learning about multi functional breeds.
