My family is looking to lease a small plot of land to keep my son's 5 hens and a few rabbits because we are renting.

My family rents and am moving to Forsyth county due to landlord selling the house. My son owns 5 hens and we have a few rabbits. I can't find a landlord willing to allow us to keep our hens and rabbits we were raising for meat and eggs. We were urban homesteading and already sold 90 percent of our poultry but we can't raise any livestock at our new home. I would like to rent farmland so we can house chickens, rabbits and quail for meat and eggs. I would also like to raise ducks too. If we had someone willing to teach us, we would like to raise a hog and few sheep as well as learn to butcher and process them. Our wish one day is to be fully self-sufficient on our own land but we need help.

  • Well / Pond / Other water source

Equipment and infrastructure details

I have everything I need for my rabbits and son's hens. I just need a place to put the hutches and coops. A water source is a bonus but I am willing to bring water. It would be helpful to have a small shed to store the chicken feed, straw, rabbit feed and hay as well as extra animal care supplies I have.

Opportunity details

I mostly want to lease a plot of land to keep my small livestock on until we can afford to purchase land as well as the supplies needed to raise them.

Practices details

I want to raise chickens, ducks and quail for meat and eggs. I also want to raise rabbits for meat. If I am ever in a position to be able, I would love to raise sheep for wool and meat. But for now, I want to be able to rent land to safely house my son's 5 hens and our rabbits. I would also like to learn how to raise other animals right now like sheep and hogs for meat. I would also like to learn how to butcher and how to properly process them. I also would like to learn anything else necessary to succeed in our goals of one day owning a plot of land to homestead and be self sufficient. I also garden and want to learn to garden better as well as how to care for berry bushes/fruit trees.

  • Sheep/Goat (Dairy / Meat)
  • Vegetables

Goals details

My goal is to one day own 2-5 acres to grow enough food to feed my family if 4 year round. This includes veggies, herbs, pollinator flowers and an orchard. I also want to raise sheep, hogs, ducks, quail, chickens and rabbits for meat and eggs. I am also interested in raising geese but unsure of them. I want to be able to butcher and process all my animals as well as learn techniques like water glassing eggs and using my herbs to make my own cooking powders like onion powder. I also need to learn how to medically care for livestock. My family needs to basically learn everything we need to know how to homestead in a way that we will be successful in being self sufficient.

Experience details

I am mostly self taught through books, videos and experience. While living with my parents as a teen and young adult, I raised chickens, ducks, goats, a horse, turkeys, guineas and alpacas as well as my own rabbitry. I understand what kind of housing and feed each animal needs and basic animal care.
