Farming part-time for income
Updated Oct 16, 2025
Seeking
- 0-5 Total acres
- 0-5 Acres of cropland or tillable land
Desired locations
I am seeking land to grow vegetables and herbs. Ideally, I would on this land with my partner and small dog.
Plan
I currently manage a 1/2 acre urban farm with vegetables, herbs, fruit trees and chickens. I have a team of 3 people and also manage all educational programs in the garden. We use produce for classes, for guests to take home and donation to local food kitchens. I follow sustainable practices and focus on soil health. Moving forward I would like to dedicate more of my farming to medicinal plants as herbal medicine is a very important practice to maintain our wellbeing. Education is very important to me, so I would love to still have opportunities to teach people about growing food and medicine. My next move in farming will allow me to live where I work and build community.
Desired infrastructure
Equipment and infrastructure details
A cabin/house for my partner, myself and our dog. My partner and I would both contribute to the farm work. (Our dog would sit around a tell us what to do.)
Farm equipment that would be useful: cultivator, hand tools such as hoes, shovels, rakes, cover cloth. Storage for the equipment is necessary, ie a barn or shed.
Irrigation equipment and access to water.
Storage for vegetables in a CSA/market garden/donation scenario.
A greenhouse is a plus especially for less cold tolerant crops. I am open to putting up a greenhouse once on the property.
Preferred type of opportunity
Opportunity details
I am open to a variety of options.
Desired farming practices
Practices details
I want to grow in a way that is aligned with the earth. No heavy chemicals and no heavy fertilizers. Working to improve land slowly and with natural processes is very important to me.
Production goals
Goals details
I would like to grow in alignment with my community. This means that I would like to access what models works best for the place that I end up. My longterm motivation is providing educational opportunities for people to learn about gardening as well as providing my community with vegetables and herbs that support our minds, bodies and spirits. While I know this is vague, I believe that it is best to allow flexibility in my plan so that there is room to move with the people and place that I connect with. I do understand the need to have a financial plan and would work with my collaborators to create this once we have evaluated the community goals.

Experience details
I have worked on 4 farms and gardens including an educational farm that grew all produce for a residential learning center, a CSA farm, a donation garden and an urban educational garden. I have a masters in environmental education and a graduate naturalist certificate. Over the last few years I have developed numerous educational programs teaching kids about farming and connecting to their food. Through these experiences I have learned about the many varieties of farming with their beautiful qualities and challenges. I have learned that it is very important to understand the goal of growing and what systems are going to make that process the most successful.
