Hi! I've been a regenerative, pasture-based livestock farmer for 10 years, and my wife and I are looking for land in WNC

Currently I have a full-time, remote job advocating for farm policy that supports high-welfare, pasture-based, regenerative Farming in the United States. My hope would be to maintain that job while starting a small livestock farm, with the potential of expanding into more full-time operation.

  • Farmer housing
  • Barn
  • Well / Pond / Other water source

Equipment and infrastructure details

Housing would be optimal, but we (my wife and I) are open to all types of arrangements!

  • Sale (Cash or Mortgage)
  • Sale (Owner Financed)
  • Lease w/Option to Buy
  • Lease w/Mentoring
  • Employment with Transfer

Opportunity details

Again, flexible to have conversations! Would be willing to assist in care taking for land, lease-to-buy options, straight sales, etc. We're pre-approved for ~400k in straight purchasing, but open to all opportunities.

  • Regenerative
  • Ecological production but not certified

Practices details

I'm a subscriber to the benefits of grass-fed, regenerative, pasture-based livestock farming. I'm open to all previous land-uses, and believe in the power of grazing to rehabilitate degraded land.

  • Cattle (Dairy / Beef)
  • Hay or pasture
  • Hogs
  • Poultry (Broiler / Layer)
  • Sheep/Goat (Dairy / Meat)
  • Vegetables
  • Woodlot or forest products

Goals details

I'd like to focus on raising diversified livestock, as that is where most of my experience lies. Pasture-raised hogs & poultry, beef cattle, and potentially small-ruminant dairy. I have additional interests in orcharding and forest Farming, but those would likely be at hobby scales.

Years of experience

10 total years of experience

6 years employed as a worker (non-manager)

4 years as a manager

Education, training, and employment experience

  • Formal agricultural education (AA, BS, MS, PhD)

Experience details

I've got a degree in Sustainable Agriculture, went to an agricultural work college in North Carolina, and have managed large grass-fed dairy & diversified livestock farms up & down the east coast. I also have experience with Organic vegetable production and maple/black walnut sugar making.

Additionally, I've spent a few years assisting farmers in preparing for climate change, by performing on-farm risk assessments & creating adaptation plans designed to mitigate the affects of a changing planet.
