I am a farmer, and I am seeking land to sustainably grow crops, soil, and community on.
Plan
I spent the last three years managing a medium sized organic farm in Connecticut, and have recently moved back to Jackson County to be closer to family. I currently have a full time job, and am planning on farming on the side while I learn the land and find available markets for revenue.
I practice organic farming, including cover cropping, intercropping, soil building, etc.. I am open to learning new ways of sustainable farming. My experience is in cut flower, vegetable, and some fruit production, and I am open to exploring forest farming and other practices.
Desired infrastructure
Equipment and infrastructure details
Every farmer loves their toys and tools. I am no different.
I prefer access to fencing, cold storage, and a greenhouse. However, these fun tools are not required for farming success, and I have gone without all of them at points. I have limited hand tools, but will be growing my personal collection.
Access to water is inherently important. I am open to discussion on what a water source could look like.
Preferred type of opportunity
Opportunity details
I am primarily interested in building a relationship with the land and with the stewards of the land. After that is established is when I would want to really lean into focusing on revenue. I am open to exploring agrotourism and have experience with leading workshops and managing volunteers. I hope I have expressed my passion for working with the land, and for building community through land stewardship (while making a bit of a living as well). Desired farming practices
Practices details
I am interested in farming practices that enhance the soil and the biodiversity of the land. I am a firm believer that taking care of the land leads to a more abundant and nutritious harvest. My goals are to have an organized and thoughtful crop rotation program that both feeds the soil and the crops. I am interested in a year-round growing system and harvest, and would prefer, but am not reliant on, a greenhouse. Implementation of regenerative practices such as green row covers, intercropping, and mulching would be ideal.
Production goals
Goals details
My experience is in flower, vegetable, and fruit production, and I have worked with chickens and sheep as well. I am planning on starting with a small output of flowers and vegetables, and growing to a larger output including fruit crops like berries. My plan to generate income is to start with wholesale accounts to generate a smaller, but more reliable, market. The next step would be incorporating farmer's markets and selling to private buyers for events. I am open to conversation about a farm stand.
A more detailed plan would be put in place with respect to the specifics of the land and the owner(s) of the land. I am interested in a slow start with proven results over a rushed plan.

Experience details
I received a Bachelor's degree in horticulture from Clemson University in 2022. Before that I interned at several farms, and apprenticed on several farms through the WWOOF program. After graduating college, I managed 12 acres of land (six acres of cropland and six of residential/woodland). I successfully ran a farm stand, markets, and wholesale accounts. I had the honor of managing a rotating crowd of remarkable volunteers and employees. I implemented a successful cover crop program and an organic pest reduction program. I am confident in crop rotation, succession planting, seeding, irrigation, and more- though there is always so much more to learn on a farm.
