Farming full-time for income
Updated Jun 16, 2025
Desired locations
Open, we are open to any opportunity involving us to work the land and livestock. We aspire to help those who need it.
Plan
During my 20+ years in the army, we always planned on coming back to farm life. Now I have retired, we are ready to set roots. I grew up on a farm but it has been a while. My wife and I (and kids) are ready to work, learn, and gain experience in exchange for an RV site. A dream would be to help keep a farm running for a family looking to pass it on. We are a hardworking, quiet, clean, respectful Christian family looking for an opportunity to help a farm in need in return for a chance. We have our 5th wheel RV and we can move to your location. In addition, we have experience in construction/carpentry, horse care, heavy machinery operation and maintenance, and the ability to adapt and overcome
Preferred type of opportunity
Opportunity details
We are open to many types of farming and looking forward to this opportunity. The saddest thing to see is an abandoned family farm. Not just the loss of land but the loss of knowledge and experience. Perhaps we can help prevent a farm from this fate and gain experience along the way. Perhaps a farmer is looking to downsize or pass the farm on. We are looking for the opportunity to learn and work the land in exchange for an RV site and experience. We hope to have our own farm someday. Farming requires a sound plan, hard work, dedication, the ability to improvise, and faith. I look forward to teaching these lessons I may learn from you and pass them on to my children, the next generation.
Desired farming practices
Practices details
I worked on farms using conventional methods in the past. I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to learn regenerative methods. To avoid using chemicals and discover natural remedies for plant growth and soil conservation. Being exposed to many chemicals and other synthetic materials in the military, I would like to avoid the harmful effects and test the benefits of organic farming. Traveling the world through the military allowed me to see many different ways of farming, I would like to try some. We are open to many types of farming, from small homestead to cattle farming. We are really just looking for the opportunity to learn and work the land in hopes we can have our own farm someday
Production goals
Goals details
My goal is to help someone looking to share their knowledge about regenerative farming in exchange for work.
My wife, our children, and I are looking to help another farming family who may be looking to leave farming, share their experience, or share their land in exchange for sharing the work with us.
Our goal is to help those who need it, learn to farm responsibly, and be able to use these skills along with our work ethic on our own soil someday. We know this will not happen quickly; however, patience is an important attribute for farming. So does dedication and the willingness to strive forward.
Farm experience
Years of experience
10 total years of experience
4 years employed as a worker (non-manager)
Education, training, and employment experience
Experience details
I am a retired Airborne Infantry Ranger officer in the US Army. Honestly not a lot of recent farm experience. I say that not to brag, but to inform I am not afraid to work. I grew up on a farm and continued to work for several dairy farms until I left for the army at 18. I grew up on conventional farming for farms with 300 acres. In my farm-life and army-life, I recognize success depends on a sound plan, hard work, dedication, the ability to improvise, and faith. I always planned to have a small farm after the army, unfortunately today's market no longer allows this to happen. I have a master's degree; however, I believe many other attributes and experience are more important than a degree.
