I am an experienced farmworker looking to lease land. Interests include raising livestock, market gardening, forestry.
Plan
My plans are adaptable to the land leasing opportunities which come up. I am primarily looking for land to lease for a native plant nursery and a very small sawmill operation for wood working projects.
I am also interested in raising sheep/beef cattle (using rotational grazing practices), and perhaps a small mixed vegetable production. I value stewarding land with a sensibility to its ecological relationships, and nurturing human relationships to land. My farming inspirations include Wendell Berry, Elliott Coleman, George Washington Carver, and James Heriott.

My interest in livestock production is tied to my interest in ecosystem management through the use of rotational grazing. This practice leads to good health for livetsock, as well as nurturing biodiverse pastures, and healthy soils.
My interest in having a native plant nursery is because I am interested in native plant landscaping to provide habitat for native insects and bird species. I am interested in organic (although not certified) nursery practices both to reduce environmental impact and to create resilient plant starts.
My interest in having a small sawmill is to use waste wood from tree work to create useful lumber for projects.

Experience details
I took many Agriculture classes in high school and was a very active member of my local FFA chapter. In high school, I worked at a neighboring dairy farm.
I spent 1.5 years as part of a Farm & Food Fellowship, spending two seasons working on mixed vegetable operations and working with livestock, as well as doing farm tours around central Virginia. The program was focused on soil health and farm ecology.
After this, I spent a couple years working for a contractor on farm infrastructure projects. I built fences and other farm infrastructure, did dirt/road work, and maintained pastures and woodlands.
I currently work in the landscape industry, but am drawn to returning to food production.
