Farming full-time for income
Updated Sep 9, 2026
Seeking
- 11-50 Total acres
- 0-5 Acres of cropland or tillable land
- 6-10 Acres of pasture
- 0-5 Acres of hayland
Desired locations
Hard working young couple seeking horse and farming land for business and homestead in WNC
Plan
Horses will be the primary income source, but we hope to really have all of our pursuits based from the farm:
-Horse training and sales
-Horse back riding lessons
-Equine therapy
-Agritourism- yoga classes, farm tours, etc.
-Homesteading/market garden
-Value added products- tinctures, salves, medicinal herbs
We really envision the farm being our life and livelihood, and aside from the Lord, where all things flow from.
Desired infrastructure
Equipment and infrastructure details
Ideally the land we purchase will have a livable home on it. Having a well or spring is non-negotiable for us.
If it had a barn and fenced pasture useable for horses already that's great, but not 100% necessary.
A large area of wooded land is great, even preferred, for hunting
Preferred type of opportunity
Opportunity details
We are pretty open to any scenario that ends in us owning the land at some point in the future. This will be our forever home. We know we still have a lot to learn, and are very open to mentorship. Funds are currently limited, but over the next 5 years, we anticipate to have much more purchasing power because of an investment property and Brandon just graduated with his masters. We are ok to wait a while for the perfect opportunity! Our likelihood to increase down payment capacity and pre-approval for a loan will improve with time!
Desired farming practices
Practices details
We would focus on no-spray and no-till. Likely to follow organic practices, but unlikely to pursue certification unless the consumer demands. The biggest focus will be soil health: regular soil testing, rotational grazing and co-species grazing, application of compost made from manure, shavings, and food waste.
Production goals
Goals details
Horse training and selling will be our primary income. We intend to purchase horses, put 90+ days of training on them, then flip them for a profit, as well as boarding privately owned horses for on-site training, and teach lessons. We also hope to do equine therapy.
For homesteading & local market/DTC sales:
-Vegetable garden (~1-2 acres)
-Herbs, flowers, potential of microgreens (~1/2 acre-1 acre)
-Medicinal herbs, salves, tinctures, medicine
-Fruit trees and bushes (~1/2-2 acres)
-Goats (dairy & bush clearing)
-Bees
-Chickens (layers & broilers)
Agritourism- yoga classes
We are avid hunters and would manage wooded areas of the property for deer. We also intend to sell deer hides at market/DTC

Kimber has worked in agriculture at Biltmore since 2018, supporting operations with 700 registered Black Angus cattle, 200 Berkshire hogs, 200 White Dorper sheep, and 300 laying hens. She proposed and secured approval for a $500,000 on-site composting project for horse manure, bedding, and restaurant food waste, and has worked with solar and biodiesel initiatives. She leads farm tours and manages Biltmore’s agritourism program. A lifelong rider, she has trained horses for 10 years. Brandon is an Air Force veteran with a master’s in clinical mental health counseling and an active role in their horse training and farm ventures. Together, they hope to expand into equine-assisted therapy.
