Farming full-time for income
Updated Jan 11, 2025
Seeking
- 11-50 Total acres
- 11-50 Acres of pasture
Desired locations
My husband and I are looking for land to run a small flerd of sheep and cattle
Plan
We are dedicated to raising high-quality, grass-fed sheep and beef cattle to supply local communities with premium meats. We are open to lease or lease-option arrangements. Hillary has years of experience managing farms and caring for livestock, including cattle, horses, sheep, goats, and chickens. Greg brings expertise as a handyman, property caretaker, and maintenance/heavy equipment operator for farms and national parks. We both love working outdoors, with animals, and helping on any property we are involved with..
Desired infrastructure
Equipment and infrastructure details
We plan to use polybraid electric fencing for our movable rotational grazing program. While an existing perimeter fence would be beneficial, it is not essential. A building and a reliable water source would also be helpful for the operation.
Preferred type of opportunity
Opportunity details
We are eager to work with a landowner who has available acreage for a portable rotational grazing program. Ideally, we would like to lease at least 20 acres for a minimum of 5 years. We are also open to landowners who may be transitioning out of farming and might consider a lease-to-buy option. We are flexible and open to discussion about how this arrangement could work. We look forward to exploring possibilities together.
Desired farming practices
Practices details
We will be doing rotational grazing with around 10 head of sheep and cattle, using poly braid electric fence. Hope to find a property with pasture or mixed woods to run them on. Water on site would be helpful. Buildings would also be helpful, but not mandatory.
Production goals
Goals details
Our farm will focus on raising sheep and beef cattle using regenerative practices, emphasizing rotational grazing, soil health, and biodiversity. The cattle and sheep will have access to pasture, with minimal external inputs, ensuring animal welfare and sustainable land management. You plan to sell directly to consumers, offering high-quality, ethically raised meat. The goal is to create a profitable, environmentally responsible farm that meets local demand for sustainably raised beef and lamb, while supporting soil regeneration and reducing the farm's carbon footprint.
