I am an experienced organic farmer and land steward. My family and I are looking for land to farm.
Plan
Just left a farm mentorship position in Maryland. Just moved to western NC. Looking for a place to raise organic, pasture-raised halal chicken plus mushrooms, berries, greens, tubers, herbs, and flowers. Some fruit trees and/or windbreak trees or other environmental improvements also possible if needed and ageeed upon.

A wish list would include about everything you could have on a farm but that’s probably not realistic to expect . At a minimum it would be good to have a water source, even a single hydrant.
Preferred type of opportunity

We need a piece of land 0.5 to 5acres. Preferred with water source and some fencing. Wish list would include a chicken coop, some irrigation supplies, and access to a tractor, but we can start from zero if needed. Farmer housing of course would be a big plus, but not a must-have. Preferred at least 7 direct sun for at least part of the parcel and not subject to seasonal waterlogging, at least not the part we would like to use. Wish list would also include an east, southeast, or south-facing slope. If shade available, that would be nice for where we would like to place the animal shelter. If not, we could seek permission to plant a few shade trees and/or windbreak trees if needed.

I am fully committed to organic practices, but also have seek to apply regenerative and permaculture principles, to work with the whole landscape and not just the cultivated/grazed space.

Experience details
Took the UC Santa Cruz Apprenticeship in Ecological Horticulture on the 90’s then interned at a native fruit tree orchard and nursery in mid-Tennessee. Managed several farms from the mid-2000s until 2023. Started a family in 2019. Most recently served as a farm mentor in northern Maryland.
Obtained a certificate Permaculture Design at the Heathcote Community in northern Maryland in 2010.
