NC FIELD seeks to lease farm acreage for greenhouse and winter food projects.
Plan
NC FIELD is a rural nonprofit seeking a small, affordable farm or agricultural property in area codes 28578, 28365 from the town of Mount Olive, east near Hwy. 55. We are in the early development stage and plan to begin with winter crop and greenhouse production, followed by seedling sales to support future growth. Our goal is to maintain a growing environment free from synthetic pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers. We plan to use sustainable practices that support soil health, water conservation, crop rotation, composting, and non-synthetic pest and weed control. We need reliable access, water, and space for crops, a greenhouse, seedlings, and basic storage.
Desired infrastructure
Equipment and infrastructure details
We seek usable agricultural land with road access and a reliable water source. We do not require existing buildings or heavy equipment. Our goal is affordable land for winter crops, a small greenhouse or high tunnel, and seedling production.
Direct water access is preferred, but we are open to rainwater collection if space and permission allow for tanks and basic irrigation setup. We plan to use efficient irrigation.
Initial equipment will be minimal, including hand tools, a small tiller or tractor access, irrigation supplies, seed trays, and basic storage. Infrastructure can be added over time. Existing fencing, a shed, electricity, or greenhouse space would be helpful but is not required.
Preferred type of opportunity
Opportunity details
NC FIELD is seeking to lease at least five acres for a minimum of five years, with preference for a longer-term lease or lease-to-purchase option. We are focused on the Seven Springs, Mount Olive, and Deep Run area near the Duplin, Lenoir, and Wayne county lines. We need affordable agricultural land with road access and either a reliable water source or the ability to collect and store water for irrigation. Existing buildings and equipment are not required. We plan to begin with winter crops, seedling production, and a small greenhouse or high tunnel, then expand gradually. We are looking for a landowner interested in a stable, responsible, long-term partnership.
Desired farming practices
Practices details
NC FIELD plans to use sustainable, low-impact farming practices that protect soil, water, workers, children, and the environment. We intend to avoid synthetic pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers whenever possible. Our methods will include soil testing, crop rotation, cover crops, compost and natural soil amendments, mulching, efficient irrigation, and manual or mechanical weed control. Pest management will focus on prevention, crop diversity, monitoring, and non-synthetic controls. We will begin with winter crops and greenhouse or high-tunnel production, using non-GMO seeds and expanding gradually based on soil conditions, available resources, and demonstrated demand.
Production goals
Goals details
NC FIELD plans to launch a small, sustainable farm and greenhouse in eastern North Carolina, focusing on winter crops like leafy greens, brassicas, onions, and herbs. We will also sell non-GMO seedlings as an early revenue source. Our practices will prioritize soil health, water conservation, and environmental safety, avoiding synthetic chemicals. Methods include crop rotation, composting, cover crops, and efficient irrigation. Starting small, we will grow with support from volunteers, partners, and donated resources. Our goals are to expand access to local produce, generate income, and create opportunities for education and community engagement.
