Farming part-time for income

Seeking
- 11-50 Total acres
- 11-50 Acres of pasture
Desired locations
Seeking to start a farm for sheep. I am currently living on 13 acres and need more land to expand a sheep operation.
Plan
I currently have a small flock of registered Katahdin sheep. My status is learning how to rotationally graze sheep, develop a breeding program that improves the genetics of the flock so that we do not use antibiotics and deworming medications, create a customer base for direct sales of meat and breeding stock.
Desired infrastructure
Equipment and infrastructure details
I currently use high tensile electric fence as a perimeter fence and use electric poly rope for rotational grazing. I need electricity and a water source.
Preferred type of opportunity
Opportunity details
I am looking for pasture land that I can rotationally graze a flock of sheep. I will maintain the perimeter of the property. Rotationally grazing the land continues to improve the fertility of the land, and sheep manure is some of the best natural fertilizer for pasture.
Desired farming practices
Practices details
I am rotationally grazing sheep which is helping with parasite resistance. To date I have not needed to deworm the sheep, but will deworm them if their famacha score indicates it is needed. My desire is to raise healthy animals giving them a high quality of life.
Production goals
Goals details
Farming goal is to rotationally graze 300-750 head of katahdin sheep for commercial meat production. Eventually I will need more than 100 acres, but I am building up the flock as experience and grazing pasture permits.

Experience details
I have a small flock of registered Katahdin sheep on our 13 acres. I have watched an abundance of YouTube videos on farmers who are farming the way I want to farm. I am reading books that teach how to rotationally graze and explain the nature of creating good pasture for sheep. I have read about the diseases and signs that are indicators of poor health that are common with sheep. I am a member of the Katahdin Hair Sheep International. I am scheduled to attend the Katahdin Expo 2026 in Cookville Tn that provides continuing education and networking.
