First-generation homesteaders with strong work ethic, big dreams, and a willingness to learn and build a meaningful life

We are a young family pursuing our dream of building a small, sustainable homestead rooted in faith, hard work, and intentional living. While we do not come from a farming background, we are motivated, resourceful, and eager to learn quickly through hands-on experience and mentorship. Our plans include gardens, orchards, laying hens, and small livestock while using regenerative and low-tox practices that prioritize soil health and responsible stewardship. We are committed to putting in the work required to care for the land well, grow wholesome food, and create a peaceful place for our family and community to thrive.

Equipment and infrastructure details

My preferred equipment and infrastructure would support a small-scale diversified farm focused on sustainable production, efficiency, and long-term growth. Initial needs would include prepared growing areas, raised beds, irrigation systems, composting space, fencing, hand tools, harvest equipment, seed-starting supplies, and basic farm machinery such as a walk-behind tractor, tiller, carts, and utility tools. A greenhouse or high tunnel would provide season extension, allow for seed propagation, and increase crop diversity.

Additional infrastructure would include a clean produce washing and packing area, cold storage or refrigeration, storage space for supplies, and a small farm stand/market

Practices details

We are interested in regenerative, small-scale farming practices that prioritize soil health, biodiversity, and long-term sustainability. This includes composting, cover cropping, crop rotation, and minimal to no chemical inputs. We prefer low-till or no-till methods where appropriate, along with natural soil building and organic approaches. For livestock, we are interested in humane, pasture-based care with rotational grazing to support land regeneration. We value integrated pest management, companion planting, and water-conscious practices such as drip irrigation and rainwater capture. Our overall goal is to work with the land in a thoughtful, observant way that improves fertility and resi

Goals details

Our goal is to establish a diversified small-scale farm focused on sustainable, responsible food production and community connection. We plan to grow seasonal vegetables, herbs, and specialty crops using practices that prioritize soil health, biodiversity, composting, crop rotation, cover crops, and efficient water use. We will combine farming with my artisan sourdough bakery to provide locally produced food through farmers markets, pre-orders, and community partnerships. As the farm grows, we hope to expand into flowers, fruit, and other value-added products while maintaining environmentally conscious practices. My long-term vision is to support local agriculture, strengthen relationships.
