Farming part-time for income
Updated May 20, 2026
Seeking
- 6-10 Total acres
- 0-5 Acres of cropland or tillable land
- 0-5 Acres of pasture
- 0-5 Acres of hayland
Desired locations
Our family is looking for farmland where we can use regenerative farming methods to grow flowers, fruits, and vegetables
Plan
Our family briefly owned and operated a small farm in NJ (Lavender and Lambs LLC) where we began the process of remediating our soil to grow flowers, fruits and vegetables. We were using regenerative methods- without the use of chemicals or pesticides. We also had chickens (layers) for eggs and horses to create compost. The purpose of our farm was primarily for homesteading, using flowers and surplus produce to generate income. During the pandemic, we sold our farm to move to NC so we could homeschool our kids. We have lived in Moore County for the past 5 years and very much miss our farm life. We would love to recreate something similar to what we had in NJ.
Desired infrastructure
Equipment and infrastructure details
It would be nice if there was a farmhouse on the property so we could be as close as possible to our operations. We would love to have a barn; fencing to keep the animals contained and safe; irrigation equipment or at least water availability at the crop land and pastures. It would be very helpful to have access to farm equipment, such as a tractor, mower, bush hog and manure spreader.
Preferred type of opportunity
Opportunity details
We would love an opportunity to lease farmland for several years. It is difficult and expensive to get started and having land, equipment and infrastructure in place would be incredibly helpful. This would allow us to purchase any items that we may need to ensure a successful operation (seeds, supplies, infrastructure, marketing and advertising) without the stress of having to purchase everything at once.
Desired farming practices
Practices details
We would like to use regenerative farming methods to grow flowers, fruits and vegetables. This method may take time depending on the state of the land we acquire. The land will most likely require a complete soil evaluation, cover crops and compost over many seasons to improve the health of the soil. We also plan on using organic methods for pest control and fertilization. We do plan on having some animals on our farm for compost production and pest control. We plan on having chickens (layers) for egg production as well.
Production goals
Goals details
Our primary focus would be using regenerative methods of growing fruits, vegetables, herbs and flowers without the use of chemicals or pesticides. We would plan on using 2-3 acres of farmland for growing seasonal vegetables, fruits and herbs. We would use another 1-2 acres for growing flowers. Although we would not be involved in meat production, would have chickens (layers) for eggs using a mobile coop system. We would also have several animals for grass/weed control, pest control and manure for creating compost. We would use rotational grazing for these animals. We would sell our products at local farmers markets each weekend and contact local florists for cut flower sales.

Experience details
My agricultural training and experience is fairly limited at this point but I am always seeking training and educational opportunities. I have taken numerous on-line classes, including an in-depth flower farming course through Floret Flower Farm in 2019. I was able to use what I had learned successfully on our farm in NJ. My husband has an Associates Degree in welding; has a CDL; and is able to operate, repair and maintain vehicles, equipment and machinery. He is incredibly hard working and was able to design and install the infrastructure that we needed such as irrigation.
