Farming part-time for income
Updated Feb 20, 2026
Seeking
- 11-50 Total acres
- 11-50 Acres of pasture
Desired locations
Looking to expand current cattle operation in or around Pitt County.
Plan
My family and I currently manage a small heard of registered and commercial angus cattle. We currently run about 15 head on our 20 acre farm in Pitt County. We would like to expand to another farm roughly the same size as our current operation to try to double our herd size. The pastures are managed in a rotational grazing system. We supplement our cattle with grain, but focus on highly managed pastures to reduce our input costs. We mainly grow cattle for freezer beef, but would like to expand to a small cow-calf operation.
Desired infrastructure
Equipment and infrastructure details
Would prefer established fencing, but would be able to modify/repair as needed. A shelter for cattle would be preferred but a full a barn is not required. A water source would also be required, can pay for utilities if needed (would have to discuss in detail to make sure it is financially reasonable if it is a municipal water source)
Preferred type of opportunity
Opportunity details
Looking for an opportunity to lease a tract of land between 10-30 acres. If the land is in the right location, an option to buy would be preferred.
Desired farming practices
Practices details
Our focus is to manage the land and cattle herd with little outside influence or impact. While we are not fully organic/regenerative we in general practice these activities when feasible. We do not vaccinate our cattle, but will provide medication when needed. We do not use herbicides on our pasture land, but will use synthetic fertilizer when needed. We are always trying new techniques to reduce our costs and impact to the land.
