Seeking
- 0-5 Total acres
- 0-5 Acres of cropland or tillable land
Desired locations
Ruby's is a new nonprofit 501(c)3 addressing food insecurity and one of our objectives is to have community gardens.
Plan
We are going to develop our first (year round) community garden with high-calorie crops but are in need of land. We are going to grow Irish potatoes, sweet potatoes, dried pole beans (all high-calorie) and amaranth and sunflowers that will act as natural poles in the summer. We will grow broccoli, greens and onions in the winter months.
Desired infrastructure
Equipment and infrastructure details
Fencing and a water source would be great but we aren't picky. If there was a greenhouse on site that we could use we would probably use it but not a deal breaker.
Preferred type of opportunity
Opportunity details
Being a nonprofit we would love some donated space but may be able to lease land once we secure funding.

Experience details
I was raised by a family of farmers in Illinois (corn, bean and wheat) and spent my childhood in gardens which led to me being an adult that gardens. I personally have grown green beans, peas, lettuces, carrots, potatoes, melons, all sorts of pepper, onions, tomatoes, cucumbers, you name it. We also have a board member who is almost finished with their degree in agriculture from the University of Kentucky who we will lean on for assistance, especially maintaining healthy soil.
