Farming full-time for income
Updated May 16, 2025
Seeking
- 6-10 Total acres
- 0-5 Acres of cropland or tillable land
- 0-5 Acres of pasture
Desired locations
We are looking for a place to live and expand our small farm and plant nursery
Plan
We are a small farm that organically grows medicinals, underutilized food, and wholesale plants.. Our main income is hemp and cactus, but we would love to expand to more traditional crops as well. We have grown as much as we can in a home without much useable land, and I am excited to see what we will be able to do with the room to really grow.
Desired infrastructure
Equipment and infrastructure details
We would prefer a place with well, septic, and electricity. An established home would be great, but the ability to pull in a fifth wheel is necessary.
Preferred type of opportunity
Opportunity details
We are open to all possibilities throughout North Carolina!
Desired farming practices
Practices details
Although our practices are solely based on traditional raw organics, we are very willing to work within a biodynamic or regenerative framework. We would like to get our organic certification as soon as things settle
Production goals
Goals details
We would love to have usable acreage to organically grow nopales, herbs, and hemp first and foremost. We also need space for our container plant nursery (trees and houseplants). We would also like room for more traditional annual crops. At this point, we are renting a small building to grow indoor hemp (a much higher sale price), but would love to grow a large outdoor crop as well. Eventually, we would like a place to grow hemp indoors, greenhouses for the nursery, an area to really cultivate passion fruit. And hopefully some land for a small amount of cattle.

Experience details
My husband has been working in the nursery business on and off for the last 30 years. He did a farm internship season in 2019. We have been growing nursery plants for his landscaping business for 5 years, and have been selling wholesale and at farmer’s markets for 3. He has been growing hemp under a USDA license for 2 years.
I have 8 years as a farmhand, as well as the 5 years of helping run the nursery and the 3 of running a full time farm.
