Practice details

  1. After initial sod busting (about 12 years ago) the omri amendments applied as each crop succeeded and our growing abilities with the computer irrigation (less time hand-watering) the number of produce beds and areas expanded greatly. Annual soil tests were helpful as beds are amended in the 6.8 ph soil. Allowing a good rotation of crops with record keeping. Currently a few beds can be grown for homestead use OR more beds as outside markets may require. Laying hens (up to 30) are essential (and fun with our children) as the cost of eggs goes way up.

Additional information about this property

Great neighbors, a few farmers and ranchers nearby, with ready access to growing small town Mint Hill, and Charlotte/UNC Charlotte for continuing employment nearby. There is a significant population of native plants, shrubs and trees - some we planted, some already here, in the garden areas and forest trails. (A native plant sanctuary application is in the works.) Pollinators are very attracted here.  We are most interested in a succession farmer who will continue providing fresh, nutritious food for the community-or homestead, and will be a good steward of the farmland.
